Up for sale is a copy of an ORIGINAL and HISTORIC Civil War Era Newspaper the \"New York Tribune\" dated Friday, February 3, 1865. Read first hand what was happening in the US a little over 2 months before the official end of the Civil War (April 9, 1865).
It is a large 4 page (8 pages front and back) newspaper measuring approximately 16\" x 21\".
The paper covers some important historical news including the following articles \"The Great Amendment - Progress of Ratification\", \"Our Gravest Peril\", \"The Dry Good Market\", the \"Latest Facts and Rumors in Washington\", \"Freedom Triumphant - The Death of Slavery\" and \"The Dead At Salisbury\" - A partial list of the deaths of Union Prisoners of War, at the Rebel prison in Salisbury, NC, during the 60 days ending December 18, 1864. It includes news on the stock exchange, some advertisments, and much, much more!
The paper is in Poor condition. There is heavy wear and browning to the paper and there are several creases where it was folded. There are many creases and tears along the edges, some that affect the actual articles. There are a number of tears, stains and creases in the middle of the editorials, as well. The 150 year old paper also suffers from some foxing, staining and heavy browning. There is a huge section of the paper missing from the upper right hand side that affects all of the pages The middle section is particularly stained and the paper is very \"delicate\" to the touch.
This is an incredible chance to read about our countries history on the original day it was reported! A great opportunity for any collector or history buff to own a true piece of American history!
