HINDENBURG DISASTER'S EUGEN NUNNENMACHER (SALON STEWARD) AUTOGRAPHED TYPED LETTER:

(ROUGHLY TRANSLATED)

792 Heidenheim, December 15, 1976

Dear Mr. Miller,

I apologize for my long wait. It's been a difficult few weeks for me. Even now I still don't feel well. First I had to worry about my best friend, who then died unexpectedly. This death put a considerable strain on my health, so that I had to deal with the old heart disease again for a long time.Thank you for the mementos you sent me and for the good wishes. The resume you listed is correct except for one point. I wasn't Oberwart, so the boss was Mr. Kubis.I was a salon manager. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the hotel in Freehold.I can only name a few of the people in the two pictures. These are: 2. from linkg-Moser - Scheef. I don't know the gentleman in the individual photo because the photo was taken in the "Graf Zeppelin".Dr. Eckener was born in Flensburg (Sehleswig-Holstein) and came into contact with Count Zeppelin as a journalist for the Frankfurter-Zeitung. He was so enthusiastic about the first airships that he stayed with the Graf Zeppelin. He also wrote a book and spoke English very well. I'm sorry that I don't have a program for you on the occasion of DI's 80th birthday. To be able to send Eckener because there wasn't one. Everything was improvised.Attached you will find 2 recordings what I am pictured. The small picture was taken in xxxxxx Lakewood and shows me on the right with the badge on my uniform. The large picture shows me during the disaster, directly after my jump, on the way to Hilfe, the injured Ernst couple from Hamburg (on the right, without a jacket, with an outstretched arm). My jacket was burned and I had to take it off after the jump.

Today I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a happy, contented New Year 1977.

Yours, E. Nunnenmacher!
