We are simply thrilled to offer for sale a vintage Heaney Magic Company catalog in extremely good condition! This circa 1923 catalog was intended for distribution to professional magicians, amateur magicians, want-to-be magicians and magic dealers. This catalog is 100-years old and would make a fantastic gift for any magician, magician in training, magic museum or magic collection. CATALOG NUMBER: 24. We know from our research that Heaney\'s Catalog No. 25 was distributed in 1924 and Catalog No. 20 was distributed in 1922. Inasmuch, this catalog would have most likely been printed and circulated in 1922, 1923 and/or 1924. THIS PUBLICATION CONTAINS: Advertisements for over 100 magic tricks, card tricks, vanishing tricks, merchandise, props, illusions, etc., (and lots of pretty cool illustrations). DIMENSIONS: This catalog has a brown cardstock cover, measures 5⅞” x 8¾\", contains approximately 96 pages, weighs 4.8 ounces (136 grams) and is in extremely good condition - especially given its age.ABOUT THE HEANEY MAGIC COMPANY: The Heaney Magic Company of Berlin, Wisconsin was a manufacturer and distributor of magic tricks, illusions and apparatus. Born January 26, 1899 (died December 26, 1974) Gerald Vincent Heaney was a stage magician and magic supplier from Berlin, Wisconsin. He was known as \"Heaney the Great\" and his magic show toured the United States for a period of time. John Heaney owned a jewelry store in Berlin, one of Berlin\'s earliest businesses. Gerald\'s interest in magic began at the age of 15 when he met Henry Boughton (aka: Harry Blackstone Sr.).Boughton was preparing for a performance in Berlin and asked the jeweler to create a piece of equipment for him. Boughton had not yet adopted the Blackstone pseudonym and was billed as \"Frederick the Great\". Boughton befriended Heaney, at times referring to him as \"the kid from Berlin\". Boughton and Heaney remained friends until Boughton\'s death in 1965. After his encounter with Blackstone, Heaney became interested in producing magical supplies. When his family\'s jewelry store closed in 1922, Heaney announced that he would devote his time to the development of magical goods. Inasmuch, he started a mail order business for magical books, tricks, novelties and other supplies. Gerald Heaney married Viola McCarthy in 1925 or 1926. Shortly thereafter, the pair met Houdini back-stage at Chicago\'s Princess Theater. Houdini asked them to join his group of assistants and they worked for Houdini until shortly before Houdini\'s death in October 1926. Heaney was amofferextrous and became adept at [playing] card manipulation. He started performing magic by developing a 15-minute vaudeville act using playing cards. Over time, Heaney also became an accomplished illusionist, ventriloquist and hypnotist. The Heaney Magic Show eventually became a touring act that required about five tons of equipment at each show. Heaney\'s wife, whose stage name was Princess Aloiv, became Heaney\'s stage supervisor and chief assistant. She also played an organ to provide music for their shows. Heaney became well-acquainted with Thurston and Dante. After Thurston died in 1936 the Heaneys acquired his illusions, props and personal effects. \"It took a box car over 40 feet long\", said Heaney. They housed Thurston\'s equipment at their farm in Berlin, gradually adding some of the illusions to their own two-hour show. The Heaney Magic Show toured in Mexico, Canada and widely throughout the United States until the 1950s. In his later years, Heaney maintained his mail order business. Heaney died in Oshkosh on December 26, 1974 following a four-year illness.
