Shikki is a crafted object that is made by applying lacquer to bamboo, wood, paper, or cloth to make \"jubako\"(tiered food boxes), \"owan\"(Japanese soup bowls), \"hashi\"(chopsticks) and \"fubako\"(letter boxes) and it has the distinctive feature of having high resistance to moisture, humidity and heat, \"Urushi\"(lacquer) is a sort ofpaont which combines the sap from the lacquer tree with a pigment, and black and red are most common colors. The history of lacquer is long and it is known that it was used in the Jomon Period (around 8000 BC - 300 BC). From the 15th century, the beauty of Japanese \"shikki\" has been highly respected in Western society, and since it was so popular \"japan\" became the other name for \"shikki\". There seems to be many Westerners who collect antique \"shikki\" even today.
