Thisbeautiful reproduction poster has been re-masteredfrom an early 1930s Gilman Hot Springs advertising brochure. This image showsa portion of the health resort/hotel that was originally established in the1880s in the northwest portion of the present-day San Jacinto Valley, inRiverside County.

HISTORY OF GILMAN HOT SPRINGS

Gilman Hot Springs islocated on California State Route 79, four miles north-northwest of SanJacinto. Gilman Hot Springs has a post office which was opened in 1938. SidneyJames Branch settled the community in 1881, and built the Relief Springs Hotelthere in 1888.

The community wasoriginally known as San Jacinto Hot Springs, and was later named after Williamand Josephine Gilman, who purchased the hotel in 1913. The hot springs was apopular health resort, that advertised the curative powers of the hot mineralspring waters.

The hot springs resort wasoperated by the Gilman family for 65 years until 1978. By this time, interestin mineral waters had declined, and the general public’s vacation preferenceschanged in part because of their numerous travel options. The Gilmans sold theproperty to the Church of Scientology, who are the current owners. The GilmanHot Springs nameappears on maps today, and most notably, Gilman SpringsRoad, the main highway through the northern portion of the San Jacinto Valley.
