William Gebhardt came to New Braunfels, Texas in 1883 from Germany with his family. By 1892 Gebhardt was running a restaurant in the back of a local saloon where he invented the Eagle Chili Powder. In 1896 Gebhardt registered the Eagle Brand Chili Powder trade mark and moved his operation to San Antonio,TX where he opened a business to manufacture and sell his chili powder.
