GIGANTIC! 95.4mm! Cypraea mappa rosea #1, Linnaeus 1758, AWESOME ULTRA from the Philippines. Collected by a diver in 30 feet of water, Eastern Samar Island, Philippines, 2018. I used to occasionally find pieces of the map cowrie while walking along the shoreline at Kwajalein---a piece of a broken base, that sort of thing. And every now and then I would find an almost whole one, but not too often, because the shell apparently loved to live in the deep waters on the drop-off side of island. So its trip to shore was a rough one, having to go though the big surf and across the coral reef before it could end up in the hands of a 13 year-old boy.. And then one day, I saw another map cowrie lying in the rubble. Of course, I expected it to be like all of the other ones, broken, but it wasn\'t. It was a little worn on the dorsum, but it was whole, the only whole one that I ever found---and I celebrated as if I had found a gloriamaris!. That\'s shell collecting.. And this shell, as the video shows,is that kind of shell---agigantic,rose colored beauty, with a crisp pattern across its gorgeous, glossy dorsum. The dorsum is slightly unusual, (a bite repair? I can\'t tell) but as the size comparison shows, this is a truly giganticbeauty, and is without a doubt a special shell that will lookterrificsitting on your shelf!The ultra-perfect shell for a first-class collection.
As for normal disclaimers, we do the best we can with photos, but color is tricky, especially since cell phone cameras automatically lean towards flesh-tone coloring, (that\'s why so many of the photos of shells on show up with more orange than is really there, the camera changes the color, and damm if I can figure out how to stop that from happening, but I try, honest!As for response, as your know, sellers live and die by the response you leaved, (please leave fives!) so if you have a problem, just let me know!
