This is what I BELIEVE to be, anOriginal, Solid Lead, "Mother Cat & Two Kittens in Pram" Miniature, Hand Made by The Master Craftsmen of Georg Heyde & Company, of Dresden, Germany, Circa Late 1800's or so.I have seen many Heyde figures over the years, but I have never seen anything quite like this little jewel piece! It is tiny, measuring approx. 38mm long!
The amount of detail that was lovingly crafted into this ever-so-tiny, glorious treasure is absolutely astonishing! The beautiful craftsmanship borders on being closer to that of jewelry, rather than toys.
It is my opinion that this piece transcends the antique toy genre and really is a genuine work of art. To those of you who, like myself, are feline lovers, this piece is absolutely precious and would make a spectacular gift for a very special cat lover.
Again, I BELIEVE this piece to be by Georg Heyde--but I am not positive. Since Heyde did not mark many of his works, there is no way to know 100% without a doubt, but the fact that it is solid lead, has such exquisite details and has the look & feel of other Heyde pieces I have seen, leads me to believe that it is, indeed, a Georg Heyde original. Has anyone out there seen one of these before???
