GENUINE 19TH CENTURY VRAI DENTELLE, or “TRUE LACE” BANQUET SIZE TABLECLOTH

This is the most MAGNIFICENT tablecloth I’ve ever seen in all my years.

This stunning banquet size tablecloth is truly one of my most prized possessions.

This warm white cotton antique tablecloth is NOT fabric which was embroidered like so many. This entire tablecloth was stitched by hand, known as needle and bobbin lace. Hand made lace is extremely collectible, its exquisite nature, design and sheer beauty, make each piece of antique lace a work of art and a testament to the women long ago who labored stitch by stitch to create it.

The incredible effort and skill that went into creating this tablecloth required hours and hours of precise work. A 1 inch piece could take a lace maker amost 10 hours to make.

Tablecloths like this took many years to create, especially one this size.

Something to be aware of is that many tablecloths that are listed on as needle lace, are not.

I have been blessed to own such an amazing part of history. I have lovingly cared for it and the condition appears like new to me. I cannot find even one broken stitch. The tablecloth is clean and ready to be used.

The photographs show this tablecloth displayed over antique French sheets on my dining room table. The antique French sheets are not part of the listing. If your table is not super long, the tablecloth can pool on the floor, giving it a romantic look.

It is truly with a heavy heart that I part with this one of a kind heirloom but we are downsizing next year so I am starting the process.

I cannot tell you the amount of complements that I have received through the years. My holiday tables were the most beautiful imaginable. But now it’s time to pass the torch.
