This is the model that was chosen to be used on the iconic \"Leave It To Beaver\" television show during the late 1950\'s and early 1960\'s. From what information I can find, this model radio was first located in The Beaver\'s bedroom and later in the kitchen.
Models in this series are 860, 861, and 862. Broadcast only.Models X860, X861, and X862. Broadcast and Shortwave.
The colors were Black and Cream, Red and Cream, Turquoise and Cream.
Please view all photos carefully as they are part of the description and condition.
I plugged the radio in and the pilot lamp lights up and stays on. The radio turns on, however, I could not tune in to any radio stations. There is a loud humming noise with slight hissing in the background when turning dial. Sounds like it\'s trying to tune into a station.
The cabinet is in very good condition with no cracks, splits, or major chips. There are some very slight flea bites on edge on the top and bottom of cabinet. A few very slight surface scratches on cabinet which can not be felt to the touch.
When I removed the cabinet to expose the circuit board and tubes, I could see just below the interior label that a small piece of the plastic that slides into the slot to hold the radio was broke off and the broke piece was lodged in the slot. This was done long before I acquired the radio. I had no trouble removing or replacing the cabinet to the circuit board. I had to give a slight tug to release the cord prongs from the cabinet and a slight push to plug it back in. The cabinet if very secure when screwed back in place.
Both on/off and dial turn freely. Missing one knob. The other knob has a small chip on the edge. The center of the dial where the atomic motif is located has an internal hairline crack that can not be felt when touched. On the dial above number 14, a previous owner lightly wrote in pencil the call letters for a radio station.
The GE label on the bottom edge is complete and in great shape and slightly wavy under the GE symbal. The label on the dial hood is complete and in great condition....slightly wavy to the touch. Slight fading of the words \"phono/radio\" next to on/off knob.
The cord is original and in very good condition. The cords for this series of radio were the same color as the cabinet.
