Late Cretaceous petrified embryo , probably a Non-Crested Hadrosaur but I can't say for certain which particular type. The common fetal position is plain to see with the knees bent towards the body, quite like a chicken embryo today. Not all developing dinosaur embryos were positioned the same way inside their eggs. Many grew in leathery eggs to football size before hatching, where others were in stationary size hard shell eggs like chickens. The position of this fossil resembles the fetal embryos of Non-Crested Hadrosauridae, which is the most common type found today. I have read numerous times that your chances are better to win the lottery than to find a dinosaur embryos fossil. I must disagree because I have quite a few and I actually live in an area where , according to most "experts", there are no dinosaur fossils to be found at all. This particular fossil shows the full head of the embryo including an eye, as well as the skeletal structure down to the claws on the feet. A superb example with features that are easy to identify. Lots of areas of petrified soft tissues as well as petrified bone. Fossil weighs .76 lbs, or 12.3 oz .
