These studies continue to be taught to all children, 8 - 12 years old in Vietnam today.

Whilst this list is far from complete, some of the people studied are;

Nguyen Van Lem - A Viet Cong operative who was summarily executed by South Vietnamese General Nguyen Ngoc Loan during the Tet Offensive. The photograph of his execution became iconic.

Phan Thi Kim Phuc - Not a martyr in the traditional sense, but she became a symbol of the civilian suffering during the war when a photograph of her running naked after a napalm attack became famous.

Thich Quang Duc - A Buddhist monk who burned himself to death in 1963 in protest against the persecution of Buddhists by the South Vietnamese government led by Ngo Dinh Diem. His self-immolation was captured in a famous photograph.

Dinh Cong Dat - A South Vietnamese soldier who refused to follow orders to fire on civilians during the Hue Massacre in 1968. He was executed by his own unit for disobedience.

Pham Ngoc Thao - A Viet Cong operative who led an assassination attempt on US Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara in 1963. He was killed during the attempt.
