Flintstones Freeway Theme Park Attraction Concept Painting Hannah Barbera 1968:

Stunning Cartoonsville "Flintstone Freeway" Theme Park Attraction Concept Painting by Bruce Bushman (Hanna-Barbera, c. 1968). Hanna-Barbera fans have often wondered what it would be like to wander around in Bedrock for a day, so much so that there are small parks dedicated to The Flintstones all over the country.

With this amazing concept idea for "Flintstone Freeway," you can see how much fun it would be! In the late 1960s, there was almost a Hanna-Barbera "super park" with intricate plans drawn up for something to rival Disneyland: "Cartoonsville."

Bruce Bushman, former layout man and Imagineer who helped design Disneyland, and son of legendary Hollywood silent screen star Francis X. Bushman, had worked on The Flintstones, The Jetsons, and Jonny Quest. Bruce was a natural at drawing up big presentation pieces like such as this to show to potential investors. This piece is an exciting example of his work on the never built theme park land.

An original hand-colored brown-line print of Bruce's concept for the attraction, colored with artist's markers. This would have been the park's premier attraction, as The Flintstones had by that time become one of the most popular animated shows on television - after all, it aired in prime-time and was enjoyed by the entire family, not just the kiddies!

The overall size is approximately 24" x 18.75". The signature in the lower right is part of the brown-line print. Cartoonsville, a fascinating concept from animation and theme park history, would have been the very first Hanna-Barbera theme park, had everything gone as planned; alas, that didn't happen. Condition on this rare item is Good to Very Good, with handling/edge wear and fold creases.
