This stone is a hard type chalcedony quartz flint (with fusulinid fossil inclusions) which appears to be worked into a usable stick tied tool. The technique of striking and spawling to create tools is seen in ancient Neanderthal cave tool finds and are similar tool techniques as some Kansas River found stone artifacts. This stone is in the condition it was found at the Kansas River sand dunes. This and other artifacts from locations of the Kansas River could be very ancient human tools as mentioned. The Kansas River recedes sometimes for periods of time or only for a couple of days - new landscapes appear in the river channel from sand, mud, and stone. The last large glacier aprox. 600,000 years ago filled till in the large river valley that was across the Kansas state at that time. At the East Kansas River where this stone was found there is alluvial and glacial till sand and stone a half mile deep according to surveys.
