Fine Cornetite Crystals and Malachite on Cuprian Halloysite Matrix

Originally collected from Star of Congo Mine, Lubumbashi, Haut-Katanga District, Democratic Republic of Congo.

While cornetite is rare, the gem crystals (teal blue) are much more rare. This one has nice singles, clusters, and flower patterns along with interesting malachite formations that are multiple shades of green.

Size is60mm x 48mm, 48.3 grams.

Cornetiteis a rare phosphate of copper with hydroxyl named after the geologist Jules Cornet, with the chemical formulaCu3PO4(OH)3. Hardness is 4.5 on the Mohs scale.

Halloysiteis an aluminosilicate clay mineralwith the chemical formula Al2Si2O5(OH)4.Hardness is 2.5 on the Mohs scale.

Malachite is Copper Carbonate Hydroxide, Cu2(CO3)(OH)2. Hardnessis 3.5-4.
