For sale is a fine mid 18th C Danish rococodouble-lidded snuff box. The box is 2 7/8inches tall by 1 5/8 inches wide by 1 inch thick and weighs 45 grams. It is decorated with chased scrolls andshells. The curved main lid has a shellthumbpiece and is hanged at one edge.The small base compartment has a flat lid. It has pricked engraving on the bottom lid,but it is difficult to decipher. Theinteriors are gilded. It has a mark stampedinside the bottom lid, but I have not been able to place it. I did locate a very similar one made by Danish silversmith Christian Pedersen Hovring, working ca 1754-1767.

Condition on the box is quite good. There is polish stuck in many of the chasedlines, but otherwise just normal wear from handling. Both lids still close well. A fine old snuff box!
