Here is an unusual large and terminated crystal of Ferberite, a main ore for wolframite/Tungsten. The crystal is from the famous mines at Panasqueira in Portugal, a locality which might have produced some of the Best Ferberite crystals in the world. further is the locality certainly famous for the abundance of good apatite crystals found there. Most Ferberites have a somewhat tabular habit, and are often lustrous and sometimes striated on the surface. Here you see a more unusual and almost Square habit. The crystal is in fact double terminated, although the \"bottom\" section is poorly crystallized, with multiple small termination sticking out of the surface. The crystal is in excellent condition for it\'s size, with only one area of bottom corner damaged(look on the last photo..). Given the overall size and heft of this crystal, it overall is in excellent shape. The \"top\" shows a flat termination. The sized of the crystal is most lustrous. This comes from an older period of mining at Panasqueira and almost certainly is from the 70\'s. This size for Ferberite, from Panasqueira or elsewhere, is hard to come by and rarely on the market. You could argue that makes this a museum quality and size specimen for this species. Just excellent, and rare in this formation.This crystal is 3 lb and 6 7/8 oz in weight, or 1.557 kg. The size is 4.8 inch in length(12 cm), and 2.2 inch in width and 2 inch in depth. Please be advised, I ship with Priority medium box, due to size/weight of specimen.
