Gwozdz, Thorndyke, Mass.A splendid photo with both women finely attired,their hair andmakeup well coiffed. Note the bottle of alcohol onthe table and how the women flirt with the viewer byraisinga glass while holdinga romantic rose. During the temperance movement in the United States, women drinking alcohol was socially frowned upon. Most likely taken at a brothel somewherefor a patron who wanted amemento of his visit. Because of the prohibitive costs of photography at the time, only very wealthy patrons could afford such a luxurioussouvenir. Original photographs of sex worker from this era are exceptionally rare. Measures 4 1/4\" x 6 1/2\" inches.
