Faux Wedgwood Japan 9\" Vase 2 Handle Blue White Embossed Cupid Cherub Kitsch MCM:
$12.00

Japan\'s makers really got in on the craze for Wedgwood\'s style! This is a 9\" two-handled vase with an embossed, raised pattern in white on a background of Wedgwood Blue. The quality of the Japanese imitators is not as fine as the Wedgwood originals--no surprise there. STILL, this piece is a great piece of kitsch with its bizarrely pot-bellied cupid wearing a bowler hat on one side, clutching the robes of a tall woman. They are surround by a wreath of flowers and grapes and leaves. On the other side, a cherub sits his bare butt on an overturned urn. This is just a fun piece that would look great surrounded by other mid-century and early 1970\'s kitsch. Jasperware-style but not really Jasperware because it is glazed and not matte. Not suitable for holding water as it has a hairline crack on the side as pictured. I don\'t see that the crack went through to the inside but better safe than with a stain under the glaze. There is a small amount of discoloration on that crack. I also see some cracks on the base. None of these hairline cracks are immediately obvious until you look at the piece in bright light. The piece is priced based on this condition.

How I Assess Vintage Pieces
Please note that my written descriptions are notAI-generated! These are written by a human physically looking at the actualpiece. My listings are more than just a one line list of the dimensions. I strive toidentify all flaws—even minor ones—in the listing, with both photos anddescriptions. This means you know what you are getting from me. Vintage itemstypically have light signs of usage: utensil marks, diminished shine to theglaze, scratches on the design, chips, crazing, and cracks. The situationsmentioned above are exactly what I examine each item for, under a bright lightand with glasses on, as I am listing it.I don’t use the word “excellent” unless there is no crazing, no cracks, nochips, zero utensil marks, and no muting of colors or glaze sheen…so I rarelyuse the word “excellent” for a vintage item.Problems:

WAXWING MID MOD may be able to help!
Let me know what you are after. At any given moment I have 100+ items notlisted yet! I focus on mid-century modern plate sets, serving pieces, barware, glassware, stemware, vases, and art. You can find me under AstridWaxwing09 onvarious platforms.I love reuniting orphan glassware with its pattern family! Franciscan,Noritake, Lenox, Stangl, Salem, California potteries, Dorothy Thorpe, McCoy,Hazel Atlas, Fire King, Anchor Hocking, Pyrex, and Corning Ware/Corelle aresome of the brands I seek out and educate myself about.I’m drawn to kitchenware because kitchen is the heart of the home. The ritualof choosing a plate pattern when getting married is one of the first choices anengaged couple makes together. This is when they decide what image of “successfuladulthood” they want to portray to their friends and family. Often the bridehad more control over these choices—but so much less control about mosteverything else. Women are still fighting for control over their lives, bodies, education, and destiny. It may seem odd to look backwards at dishes and bowls from the 1920’s-1970’s tobe inspired about women’s rights but I am aware on a daily basis that anyopportunity or privilege I have today was made possible by women who camebefore me—intelligent women like my mother who may have not been legally ableto have her own checking account or attend certain universities, but still tookaction to shape a better future.
