French First Empire, officers Grenadier A Pied of the Imperial Guard sword. Double fullered blade having a blue and gilt design showing stand of arms motifs and “Grenadier A Pied” within a panel. The Imperial N and panel that should show “Garde Imperiale” has been defaced, we can assume this was done when Napoleon abdicated in 1814 with Louis XVIII taking the throne. Blade has a clear manufactures mark of “DUC FOURBISSEUR DE LA GARDE *IMPERIALE* RUE ST HONORÉ EN FACE CELLE DE LA LOI N° 251 À PARIS” with the word Imperiale erased. Brass hilt with full silver wired grip which shows some looseness. Centre langets would have originally adorned a silver Napoleon silhouette, this has also been removed. Complete with original leather scabbard with correct large brass mounts. A very scarce sword which shows its history.
