FrankReynolds RI (1876-1953) was born in London and studied art atHeatherley’s. His earliest illustrations appeared in Longbow and Pick-Me-Up inthe later years of the nineteenth century. In 1901 he became a member of theRoyal Institute of Painters in Watercolours; he exhibited there and at Walker’sArt Gallery, London. He also drew cartoons for Punch.
This is a framed cartoon from the1920s or 1930s. The title is The Decline in Our Club Personalities. There are two drawings which are on the same piece of paper. Each drawing depicts a club setting with an actor, an author, and an artist, plus the waiter, in both the old and new style. In the old style, they are a rowdy bunch drinking and having a fine old time. The new style group are very staid, prim and proper. At the bottom lower left-hand corner is the signature of the artist.
The drawing is in very good vintage condition andis framed behindglass which is in good condition.The frame is very worn on all the edges and the paint is peeled off a lot. The paper on the back has not been removed, but it has some peeled and flaked areas. There is an original label and hardware on the back.
The frame is 11 inches tall x about 8 3/4 inches wide x about 3/4 inches deep. It weighs about 1 pound, 9 ounces.
