Raoul Cesar Robert Pierre Echard born September 28, 1883 in Rouen and died September 7, 1922 in Bodio, is an Ace of French aviation of the Great War with 7 victorious air battlesHe was incorporated into Squadron 26, Squadron Leader Spa 82, Squadron Commander GC 22 and commanded the Stork Squadron. He had seven wins to his name. He was appointed captain in 1917.Captain Raoul Echard, commander of the French squadron "La Cigogne" had come to Dübendorf airfield for participation in the Zurich international meeting. A three-stage competition "the circuit of the Alps" was organized on this occasion. After the first two stages without any problems, it was during the last stage on Thursday, September 7, 1922, between Bellinzona and Dübendorf, that the accident occurred at 12:25 above the village of Bodio.On his 300-horsepower Spad, the commander quickly picked up speed and overtook his competitors, then his right wing came off and the plane stung his nose. The body of the pilot was found on Mount Ghiso.
The organization of the French aviation was for the most part his work, and he commanded the French squadron at Mulhouse2.
Knight of the Legion of Honor on May 22, 1917, and he received two citations for the military medal and the war cross. He rests in the cemetery of Bonsecours (Seine-Maritime).SIZE: 13.9 X 8.9 CM
