English Mid 19th c. Tunbridge & M O P Inlaid Burl Walnut Writing Box c. 1850:

This gorgeous mid Victorian writing box features fine Kingwood and Tunbridge inlays containing boxwood, harewood and ebony and stunning panels of smoky burl walnut. It also features an octagonal mother of pearl escutcheon and central plaque (both surrounded by Tunbridge inlay.). The interior of the writing box features a blind tooled red laether writing surface and slots for inkwells, stamps and pens (no hidden compartments). The writing flaps are in great condition but a few edges have been skillfully restored. The box is 13.5" x 9.5" x 6" (tall). It does not appear that the exterior of this fine box has every received (or needed) any restoration. The box dates to c. 1840-50.
