Ellery investigates after a mayoral candidate\'s campaign manager is murdered. An escaped convict takes Ellery hostage and uses him as a human shield when the cops come after him. Sleepy Slade, the somnambulistic sleuth, is hired to protect an armored car from Ratty Rattigan, the Terrible Terror of Thirty-Three Territories.
