Former owner Eliza Jumel (died in 1865) who some claimed killed her husband after he fell on a pitchfork; she was said to have let him bleed out intentionally. The theory was she killed him for his fortune, but then haunted the mansion thereafter. Though Eliza claimed the residence was already haunted when she and her husband purchased it in 1810. Tons of additional American history at the home. Also reportedly hauted by George Washington, who commendiered the home during the Revolutionary war or Hessian mercenary soldiers who also quartered at the mansion.
