Early 1900s advertising shoe brush: Georg’s New Boot Shop: Fond-du-Lac, WI:

Back in the late 1800s, a two-story commercial brick building was the original location of a dry goods store. In 1904, a clothing store moved in. Georg’s New Boot Shop was one of the businesses in the building during the early 1900s, and probably worked collaboratively with Brauer’s Clothing Store.

What makes this advertising brush so unique is that the graphics are raised to the height of the outer part of the brush, almost as if the walnut inset was intricately carved around the graphics.

The company logo is what really stands out , with a capital “G” surrounded by laurel leaves and the number “50” under the G, whatever that means.

The brush is approximately 8 1/2 inches long and is in beautiful shape, especially for being well over a hundred years old.

It’s an important part of Fond-du-Lac’s business history.
