Size:Ammonite is 1" across, plate is 4.5" across! We recently acquired some nice fossils from the lateJoseph Butterfield Collection (NJ). We will be saleing these fossils here over the next few weeks. This is a very cool fossil ammonite,Torquatisphinctes sp.,from the famous Solnhofen Limestone of Germany. Solnhofen is one of the most famous fossil formations in the world - well noted for the fine preservation of the fossils attained in the lithographic limestone. MANY types of fossils have been found at this site, ammonites being one of the more uncommon ones. The ribbing pattern of this ammonite is clearly defined, and the whorling of the cephalopod is quite evident. The distinct ammonite is wonderfully showcased on the semi-squared plate of limestone that also contains many beautiful pyrolusite dendrites (pseudofossils). This is a very displayable ammonite and dendrite plate from this world renowned location. A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS.com is included with this specimen.
