This is a very rare invertebrate fossil. It is an extremely detailed horseshoe crab, Euproops danae, from the classic Pennsylvanian Mazon Creek of Illinois. This large fossil crab is prone and exhibits fabulous detail - this is possibly the most detailed Euproops we have ever had. The distinct crab has been fossilized in a semi-round siderite concretion, and both halves of the concretion are present and offered here together. Hundreds of these concretions are broken open before one of these crabs is discovered, and this is easily one of the better ones! This is a very detailed and collectible specimen of a primitive horsehoe crab from the Coal Age deposits of the famous Mazon Creek locality.
