Name: Sycamore and Poplar Leaf Plate Age: Eocene Formation: Green River Formation Location: Bonanza, Utah Size: Plate is 14" tall, Sycamore leaf is over 6" long! This is a beautiful pair of fossil leaves. It is a textbook Macginitiea wyomingensis (Sycamore) leaf and an amazingly complete Populuswilmattae(Poplar) leaf from the Green River Formation of Utah. The large Sycamore leaf is fully complete - all five lobes of the leaf are present and beautifully displayed. The full margins of the leaf are easily seen, and the venation is also clearly defined. An extremely long, complete petiole is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. The partially bug-eaten Poplar leaf is also fully intact, preserved from the LONG tip, down to the even LONGER petiole. The natural, dark-brown color of the leaves contrasts strikingly with the khaki-colored matrix. The impressive fossils are wonderfully showcased on the large, repaired block of dense shale. This is a very collectible and displayable specimen of a five-lobed Sycamore leaf and a very cool Poplar leaf preserved together forever.
