Item 484563 ◊ Early 1970\'s Two (2) Cartes De Visite (CDV) of Distinguished Gentlemen in Period Clothing

A rare and original, \"Early 1970\'s Two (2) Cartes De Visite (CDV) of Distinguished Gentlemen in Period Clothing.\"  Each is an outstanding, period head-shot photograph, showing a typical hair style and clothing of the era.  The making of photographs really picked up after the Civil War.  EVERYONE wanted to share their photo with friends and family. In the first card it shows a upper-body shot of distinguished gentleman in shirt and suit coat, sporting a bow tie.  He wears a typical mustache and beard of the time.   The photo measures approx. 2-1/8\" X 3-5/8\" (5.5 cm. X 9 cm. )  and is mounted on its original Card Mount, which measures approx. 4-1/4\" X 2-1/2\" (9.5 cm X 6.5 cm.)  The photographer was  D. O. Furnald,  who ran a photography studio in Manchester, NH in the late 1860s-1870.  He specialized in CDV photos, and can be found in the Briggs & Co. NH Business Directory. This CDV is in good condition.  The card mount itself is a thiner cardstock.  Visually it does not look clean, because a previous owner used glue to attach it to a scrapbook and the glue seeped through to the front.  And there is a very small tear an the bottom edge of the card and mild corner wear.   However the image of the gentleman itself is clean, and has good tonality. The second card also shows an upper-body shot of a  gentleman in clothing similar to the first.   The photo measures approx. 3-3/4\" X 2-1/4\" (9.5 cm X 5.5 cm.) and is mounted on its original Card Mount, which measures approx. 4\" X 2-1/2\" (10 cm X 6.3 cm.)  The photograph was taken by A. B. Tubbs, a photographist working out of Trumansburgh and Ulysses, NY (1870.)  He can be found Sampson Davenport NY State Business Directory. This handsome CDV card is in excellent condition, with only very minor edge wear on the bottom. The corners and edges are in great shape. The photo is very crisp and clear with good tonality. The back is pristine.  Please see all 4 photos above to confirm the condition of these two CDV cards.A very unique, \"Late 1860\'s Two (2) Cartes De Visite (CDV) of Distinguished Gentlemen in Period,\" and a fantastic addition to the collection of any history buff or collector of 19th Century sure to check out our additional  listings for a number of other Victorian and Civil War era photos and documents which are also being offered for sale this week, and in the coming weeks by PENchantiques on !!!
