Welcome (back) to the wonderful world of Lilliput Lane miniatures collecting. Lovely replicas or fantasies on real British cottages and historic buildings. They aren’t making them anymore and they are delicate, so collect now.
Dunster is an historic town with castle on the north Somerset coast just close to the Devon border.The village became a center for wool and cloth production and trade, of which the Yarn Market, built by George Luttrell (d.1629), is a relic. There existed formerly a harbor, known as Dunster Haven, at the mouth of the River Avill, but today, the coast having receded, it is now about one-half mile (0.80 km) from the village and no sign of the harbor can be seen on the low-lying marshes between the village and the coast.
In this reproduction a man in period dress holds a bobbin of yarn close to hand cart with his stock on it. A group of women sit in the sun and inside the market we can see stall holders selling their wares. Sheep graze as a reminder of where the wool comes from. Profuse flowers finish of the scene.
