Historic Disneyland Memorabilia from Saturday\'s Toys presents... a vintage treasure from Disneyland\'s first year of operation in 1956

Features Adventureland and the Jungle Cruise... with the iconic Congo Queen as it passes beneath Schweitzer Falls... and postmarked on August 9, 1956 at Ghost Town Rural Station in Knott\'s Berry Farm (long before they had a \"main gate\" and walls to keep out non-paying guests). At the time, Knott\'s (unlike Disneyland) actually had their own post office... and became a popular destination for mailing tourist letters and even Christmas cards during the holiday season.

Copyright Walt Disney Productions; with ASI Triangle logo(American Souvenirs Inc.). ASI was ahastily formed company founded by Brett Smithers and William Vanburgh(president), both previous associates of C.V. Wood, Jr (Disneyland\'s firstgeneral manager). As the new company wasformed, they were rewarded with a lucrative contract reportedly giving themexclusive rights to souvenir sales within Disneyland (with unauthorizedfinancial benefit to Wood also reported in association with theagreements). No doubt, the contract cameas a surprise to Walt Disney when he finally learned how little Disneyland wasactually earning from the sales of these souvenirs. When these contracts were ultimatelyterminated and the souvenir interests folded into Disneyland\'s own operation,the result was a $2,700,000 lawsuit against WED Enterprises, Walt DisneyProductions, Disneyland Inc., Jack Sayers, Fred Schumacher and WilliamStovall. The financial disputes thatarose due to these accusations and others like them, was a contributing factorin the termination of C.V. Wood\'s employment with Disneyland.
