This is a nice image of a gentleman, looking stern with his beard and spectacles. He is unidentified, but certainly the photographer has captured his strength of personality. The focus is clear and the composition interesting.André Adolphe-Eugène Disdéri (March 28,1819 - October 4,1889) was originally a Daguerreist, but soon became world famous for his patent of the carte de visite. He made images of many famous people. Under image, on front, is printed:"Disderi & Cie. Phot."Printed on reverse is:
"Disderi & CiePhotographes de S.M. L'Empereur
8 Boulevard des ItaliensParis"
Overall yellowing to image. Fading to image. Light soiling to image. Foxing (brown spotting) to image & card.
Card measures 4.125 x 2.375 inches. Photo measures about 3.375 x 2 inches. My mother was a photographer who collected antique photos of all types for years. As I am settling her estate, I will be listing these photos as quickly as I am able. There are hundreds of photos to go through, and I am trying to match any information my mother may have left with individual photos. Unfortunately, Mom had dementia at the end of her life and wasn't able to tell me much about her collection. She had done a lot of research into photographers and individual pieces in her collection, and often, but not always, filed her research with the photo(s). I search for more information on the internet and in history books, but it's a slow process and it will take me a long time to complete the sorting and selling process.I am always happy to combine shipping on multiple purchases, so please check out my other listings.
