Sculpted by hand, this statue shows a Guatemalan man with his ceramic clay pots on his back. He could have just been to the famous Chichicastenango market and now ready to walk home to his traditional Mayan village. He uses a walking stick, as he heads up to the western highlands.
In the figurine, there are six fabulously made earthenware clay pots, four of which are brown and two of which are glazed a deep rich red. The figurine is wearing a straw hat to keep the sun out of his eyes, along with sandals, blue pants and green shirt with cuffed sleeves. Supported under the man\'s sombero, is the leather strap that holds the bowls together, as part of his traditional head strap.
This traditional folk art piece is beautifully made with outstanding craftsmanship. And it captures the authentic life of people in the rural areas of Central America. It is a one-of-a-kind piece, that is charming, traditional, and authentic to a way of life.
