The wheels, almost all of which were sold with whitewalls, sported three-bladed wheel spinner covers.The front sported a new oval grill with a horizontal bar and twin bumper "bombs"Distinctive chrome strips swept back to meet an elongated "S" snaking down from the daring "Darrin dip" at the belt line, creating an impression of speed even when sitting at the curb.The wraparound "jet plane" windshield enhanced the impression.The Super 88 used the efficient powerful Rocket V8 engine that made Oldsmobile a performance leader throughout the fifties. The 1955 version hitched up 202 horses to rocket from 0-60 in 11-12 seconds.The roomy interior easily accommodated six passengers on plush color-keyed seats of pleated leather and cloth, stowing their luggage in a spacious trunk.The centerpiece as a symmetrical dashboard, with the speedometer directly in front of the driver and the clock on the passenger side.The '55 Super 88 Convertible listed at $2,894, but with optional features a more usual price tag was around $3, 500.Open the driver's door and gently turn the steering wheel to turn the wheels fully from one side to the other.The antenna raises and lowers.The Seats fold Forward one at a time.You can Display EITHER the Hardtop or Convertible Boot Cover.The Sunvisors are also pivotable by gently pressing down or lifting up.With Gentle Handling and safe display, the Beautiful Burlingame Red & Polar White hand-waxed surface will retain its shine.
