DEDICATION OF STAR ISLAND 1916 PROGRAM -STAR CORP. HYMNS, PROCLAMATIONS & MORE:
$45.00

We are offering the RARE program of events for theDedication of Star Island that was held on July 22nd and 23rd, 1916. Star Island is one of the nine Isles of Shoals located off the coast of New Hampshire and Maine. Theisland, which is part of New Hampshire, has been owned and operated by the non-profit Star Island Corporation since 1915 and is still operating today.
The first day of the dedication began with much fanfare and the blowing of trumpets. The people assembled on the island and formed a procession that marched to designated points in the North, the East, the South, and the West. The question was asked of the people "Do we take possession of this Island of the North?" The people raised their banners and shouted, "We do". The question was then asked of the people at the Eastern, Southern and Western sides of the island, and the same response was given. The procession proceeded to the Old Stone Meeting House that served as a church, and were joined by Honored Guests, the Clergy and the Corporation. Printed on these pages are hymns that were sung including two written especially for the Isle of Shoals - "Set from the Restless World Apart" and "The Hearts Renewal". The Title Deed and the Keys to the Old Stone Meeting House were presented to the corporation. Addresses were given by the Reverends of the Unitarian body and the Congregational body. Finally, a proclamation declares that "Star Island is now and hereby dedicated forever to the glory of God and the well-being of Man: to the brotherhood of all earnest souls, to the untrammeled study and utterance of the truth, to the promotion of pure religion. May the God of our fathers be in our midst, while we dwell together in the unity of the spirit and the bond of peace."
Star Island Corporation has historically had close ties to the Unitarian Universalist Church and the United Church of Christ. Currently, Star Island offers a wide "variety of conferences and personal retreats, some with a religious theme, others that are secular. Also offered are all-inclusive summer camp experiences for families.
