JEREMEJEVITE CRYSTAL. 0.55 cts. BurmaN / AHome pageA question?Send to a friendThe advantages of this product

Jeremejevite is a very rare mineral with variable borate aluminum fluoride and hydroxide ions.
It is named after the Russian mineralogist Pavel Jeremejev (1820-1899) who first discovered it in 1883 in the Nertschinsk district, Eastern Siberia, Russia.
Namely: until 1973, the Jeremejevite was considered by some specialists as the rarest gem in the world because it is not available in faceted cut. Indeed, although of a pretty blue color, the crystals discovered in Germany have almost always been very small, less than 10 mm in length for a very small section, hence the virtual impossibility of cutting them. The rare crystals found in Tadzhikistan are significantly larger, up to 50mm, but invariably translucent to opaque and yellow to brown in color. As for Siberia, the best discoveries date back several decades. It was in 1973 that the exceptional deposits of Erongo were discovered in Namibia, Africa. Since then, this country has become the main producer in top quality, but still in very low quantities. For example, from the 3,500 tonnes released in 18 long months, the mining company KRME found only 200 crystals less than 20 mm long for only a few mm of section, colorless to pale yellow in color. and some rare blue crystals. This complete set could not offer more than 20% in gem quality (SI to VVS). The small section of the Jeremejevite explains why cut gems greater than 1 carat are very very rare. Some specimens from Namibia produce a more or less marked pleochroism, from blue to colorless. Mindat.org has classified Jeremyevite as the 4th rarest mineral in the world.
