This medal shows Mary Magdalen gazing upon a cross and skull, the message to the wearer is to encourage them to understand that time is fleeting and we should use it well. The inscription around the edge is in French and reads \"St Marie Madlein Priez P. N.\" (St Mary Magdalen Pray for Us). The reverse shows Mary Magdalen receiving communion from Jesus with the inscription \"Souvenir de la St Baume\".French tradition says that Mary Magdalen left the holy land and lived on the sight where the church now known as \"Sainte Baume\" was built in the 13th century.
Mary Magdalene is known in the Bible as the woman who reformed her life when she began to follow Jesus. She is associated with the woman from whom Jesus cast out seven demons and who washed his feet with her tears and dried them with her long hair in thanksgiving for forgiveness of her sins.
