Connecticut Uniform Group, For an Inspector of Rifle Practice - Edw. I. Williams:
$2499.00

Connecticut Uniform Group, For an Inspector of Rifle Practice
Attributed to Edward Ingraham Williams

The grouping consists of a full dress uniform coat, field grade officer’s sword belt, chapeau, fatigue blouse, and forage cap.

  • The full dress uniform frock has scarce “IRP” shoulder knots in the rank of major, made by “J.H. McKenny & Co., New York.” All of the Connecticut State buttons are present and made by “Scovill Mfg. Co., Waterbury.” There is no maker label or ID in the frock.
  • The chapeau was made by “B.M. Warnock, New York,”size label is 7-1/8. The field grade sword belt is made by by McKenny as well; and all complete with hangers and snap swivels.
  • The fatigue blouse has similar materials and construction methods (each coat without maker info, and both having a simple cloth hanging loop at the inside back neck area), Scovill buttons on this too. The shoulder straps for major are fine examples.
  • McKenny marked forage cap has the typical bullion chinstrap, and applied bullion “CNG” in wreath. The interior shows a good deal of wear with tears, and some missing silk lining,

Condition for all these items is fine plus other than what has been stated.

The paper note with ID looks to have been done within the last 20 years or soon. It reads, “Major Edward Ingraham Williams/ Conn. National Guard/ “Blues.”There was an officer’s 1881 dress helmet for the 2nd Conn. Regiment, which I believe were the New Haven Blues. This helmet, with spike (captain rank or less) would not have been used with these uniforms, but was William’s at an earlier period in the CNG. This helmet is being offered separately on site.

I have not done any research on this group. Inspector Of Rifle Practice shoulder knots are rather scarce, and show up only in the National Guard establishment. It will be most difficult to improve on the quality and condition of this grouping.
