This is a super rare Confederate button , especially in excavated condition this nice. This is the 23 mm coat size with the most desirable Mitchel and Tyler of Richmond Virginia backmark. The button was manufactured for the Confederate state of North Carolina during the Civil War. It was worn by North Carolina Confederate officers. The button is in amazing excavated condition with almost full gold gilt, no pushes or dings, and a crisp clear image , clear backmark, and also a perfect straight shank. It has been in my collection for over 20 years and was purchased from John Rierson and dug in the sands of Ft. Fisher, N.C.
