Joseph \'\'Fighting Joe\'\' Wheeler [1836 1906] was a Confederate military commander and cavalry general who served in the American Civil War. He began his military career in 1854 when he graduated from West Point. He earned his nickname \'\'Fighting Joe\'\' while fighting Indians in New Mexico during the Indian Wars. At the start of the Civil War, he entered the Confederate States Army and fought and later commanded at numerous major engagements as a cavalry general in the Army of Tennessee. He later served in the Spanish-American War and as a U.S. Representative from the state of Alabama. Listed for sale is a [DS] document signed by general Joseph Wheeler. The document is a check, The Sergeants at Arms and dated Nov 12, 1897. The check is completed in his hand and signed \'\'Joe Wheeler\'\' in black fountain pen. The check measures 3.00 x 7.00 inches and is in fine condition. The autograph is authentic, ideal for display and is a nice example of this noted Confederate cavalry commander.
