TheUnion-Castle Line operated a fleet of passenger liners between UK and Africauntil 1977 with regular sailings on the Royal Mail route from Southampton toLas Palmas, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, East London and Durban and the EastAfrican service via Suez Canal to Durban. RMS Windsor Castle was built in 1960and operated the mail route until 1977. RMMV Athlone Castle and RMMV StirlingCastle were built in 1936 and operated the mail route until 1965.
