Rubberized Ground Cloth Rubberized material came into use with the US Army in the 1840s during the Mexican War. At the outset of the Civli War, both sides obtained rubberized products of various types. In the US Army, ground cloths made of rubberized material insulated soldiers from the damp when sleeping on the ground and could be wrapped around the body and used as rainwear during inclement weather. Our rubberized ground cloth is 36 x 72 inches in size and has a rubberized coating on one side. Sturdy brass grommets are are fixed around the edges. These can be used to secure the ground cloth around one\'s person for use as rain gear, or for tying it up as a sunshade or rain shield.
