Very interesting and rare find. A catholic 18th century ripida, completely restored. It is 46.5 cm tall, base diameter is 20 cm. Icon itself is 20.5 x 16 cm.
Translation of document by respected restorer:Rhipide from village of Sapine near Pozarevac Title: Rhipide Painting technique: oil paintson the substrate over a wooden base Dated: (analog) second half of 18th century(around 1760 – 1770) Method of making: Carved partsand vertical pillar are made of wood, top carved elements gilded on polymersand mixtion in combination with monochrome surfaces in blue and dark red color.Vertical column with stop and capitel is made with a platter on a mixtion. Thelower part of the circular disk in the form of a disc is made in combination:one part of the upper surface is marbled, while the outer peripheral part ismade by plating on a poliment. On the front of the medallion is a bust ofMadonna with a child (Virgin with little Christ). On the back of the medallion,rhipide are painted with a christogram with rays on edges. AN OVERVIEW OF COMPLETEDPAINTING, CONSERVATION AND RESTORATION WORKS ON THE RHIPIDE DURING 2018th During the research phase ofthe work, incompetent over painting and coating of certain parts with darkcolor through the gilt and painted parts was established by sounding thelayers. During conservation andrestoration works on the rhipide, all subsequent layers and unsuccessfulupgrades and overhauls were removed by mechanical and chemical treatment. All damaged parts of thesubstrate were sealed with a cretaceous primer on an acrylic base. The damagedparts of the gilt were fixed and restored with a golden leaf on a polymorphicsubstrate and a microstion, and minor damages on the vertical pillar with aliquid gold plate. All damage to the painted layer is restored with highquality colors according to the original. Footages before, during andafter restoration works done on the face and on the back of the medallion.
