Who made this pipe? Clearly they knew what they were doing, but “Canadian Club” is such a common set of words, even in combination, that finding information about these pipes has proved difficult. What about Pipedia? Well, after some persistent searching for these ubiquitous terms, we find that “Canadian Club” was either a second or sub-brand of Comoy’s. What about Wilczok & Colwell’s Who Made That Pipe? Here we find agreement with the Pipedia article. Entry number 1237: Canadian Club. Maker or seller: J E Seeman Co. Inc 1933 / Comoy’s. Another lead! So, who is this J E Seeman? This one required even more patience, but ultimately I was able to find an ad for J.E. Seeman Tobacco Co. in a 1946 issue of Broadcasting magazine. Here, J.E. Seeman Tobacco Co. is listed as a sponsor of Broacasting, and is further stated as being a Los Angeles Tobacconist. If I put my deerstalker hat on, I would presume that Canadian Club was made for J.E. Seeman, possibly as a house brand of pipes, by Comoy’s. It’s a beautiful pipe, so I’d struggle to think of it being a second.

As a last piece of evidence, even though the prince shape is a very traditional and very common one, this one does match the proportions of Comoy’s shape 337c prince quite closely. If I’m wrong on this, and you know more about Canadian Club pipes, please let me know. I’m always eager to learn when it comes to these mystery makes.

The condition is great. There’s some darkening on the pipe’s rounded rim, and the stamping is a little faded, but all in all I’d say the pipe is very well 6″ / 152.4mm

Bowl Width: 0.80 / 20.32mm

Bowl Depth: 1.08″ / 27.43mm

Weight: 1.2oz / 36g
