"OF UNIVERSAL APPEAL: A GIANT TALPA FROM DEEP WATER

Experts in cowries know about the existence of the deep water talpa from Balut Island, which occasionally reaches over 80 and even 90 mm in length. 99.7 mm was the largest one we obtained in the last 14 years.

This week we got this stunning large talpa from Sarangani, the sister island of Balut and separated from the latter by a narrow channel.

The shell measures 88.2 mm, is voluminous and beautiful and has the particularity to belong to the typical talpa, as the coloration is a soft yellow, and not tending to dark brown as is the case in the form “imperialis”.
