This vintage real photo postcardfeatures a portrait of English actress and singer, Connie Ediss (1870-1934). She was known as a buxom humorous comedian who appeared in many popular Edwardian musical comedies around the turn of the twentieth century. In the 1880\'s, she began her career in provincial theatres, performing in music hall and pantomime. Beginning in 1896, she played in a series of very successful musical comedies at the Gaiety Theatre (London). She also appeared in five Broadway musicals between 1908 and 1915. She took a long theatrical tour of Australia during World War I. In 1919 she returned to London to play in stage comedies. Between 1930 and 1933, she appeared in three films.This postcard was published by London’s J. Beagles & Co. as part of a series (No.99A).The company was started by John Beagles (1844-1909). The company produced a variety of postcards including an extensive catalog of celebrity (stage and screen) portrait postcards. After Beagle’s death, the business continued as J. Beagles & Co. until it closed in 1939.This postcard\'s portrait of Ediss was taken by Ellis & Walery (London). There is some silvering along the top of the image. This postcard is in overall Good Condition (see scans)
