This excavated Confederate artillery set was found in Flat Creek & is from Lamkin\'s Battery Mortar Section* that had four 12 pound Cohorn mortars at the Battle of Amelia Court House, fought on april 2, 1865.The brass crossed cannons insignia is in good as found (in Flat Creek) uncleaned condition with a dark bronze patina & still has the attachment hooks on the back & has some creek water bottom encrustation attached on the back. The Block A 7/8\" diameter coat button is in good as found (in Flat Creek) uncleaned condition with a dark bronze patina & still has the shank on the back & has some creek water bottom encrustation attached on the back. The mortar section of Lamkin\'s Battery was commanded by 1st Sergeant George Eggleston along with Sergeant Joseph Eggleston, Cubus Whitehead & Corporal Salathiel Wood who each commanded one of the 4 mortars, There is still a surviving 12 pounder mortar from Lamkin\'s Battery on display at the Ameria County Courthouse in Amelia, Virginia. It comes with a certificate of authenticity & extensive historical research.*It was found by Corporal Wood\'s great (4 times) grandson who explored the old battlefield sight in 1965. He also found a brass level along with several mortar shells & (oddly enough) several 12 pounder solid shot cannonballs from this battle at Flat CreeCaptain James Lamkin\'s Battery Mortar Section fought during the battles around Petersburg & at Amelia Court House in 1864 & 1865.
