CLOSEDOWN SALE Solid Brass EDC WWI German Army Trench Lighter Repro GOTT MIT UNS:
$19.16

This cigarette lighter, with the German Imperial Crown, and \"Gott Mit Uns\", is the same design as the army belt buckle. Existence in a WWI trench was very mundane, and boring, or it was shear terror. Everyone smoked to relieve the boredom, but no one wanted to be \"third on a match\"-an old superstition you never light three cigarettes on one match. It came about because if you held a match for the length of time it takes to light three matches it would give the enemy enough time to aim and shoot at you. The idea of this trench lighter is the top acted as a shroud or shield to prevent the enemy from seeing the little flame while the wick was burning. Another possible story is this trench lighter replaced traditional matches because the matches would get too wet to light in the trenches. Gott mit uns (\"God with us\") is a phrase commonly used in heraldry in Prussia and later by the German military from the period spanning the German Empire(1871 to 1918) to 1945. German soldiers had Gott mit uns inscribed on their helmets in the First World War; and during the Second World War Wehrmacht soldiers wore this slogan on their belt buckles. To the Germans it was a rallying cry, an Imperial motto, the expression of German religious, political and ethnic single-mindedness. After the war the motto was also used by the Bundeswehr and German police. (*extracted from wiki) Gives you life of reliable lighting and inspire a sense of classic from true stories. With a flint wheel and capped wick on top. The body of the lighter has been stamped on both sides with a design bearing the inscription, \"GOTT MIT UNS\" above a crown, with a wreath below. The reproduction of Imperial Prussian belt buckle was superbly crafted and authentic down to the finest detail making them nearly identical to originals. Measures approx 50mm in diameter, and 13mm thick, solid constructed. Simply put one spare wick screwed on the side in case you run out. The wheel mechanism is frozen, but could be worked loose with penetrating oil and patience. It\'s definitely an excellent piece for real bushcraft enthusiast and fine gift to your love one. You can bet that in a few years the patina and tarnish you leave behind will make this little beauty unmistakably yours.- Inspired by a sense of classic from true stories, bring an old motto comes to life
