Colonel Thomas Ormsby Underwood(1839 – 1916)

Thomas Ormsby Underwood was born 18 January 1839 at Madras, India.

He was the son of William Elphinstone Underwood and MagdaleneThompson (see below).

Thomas was a Lieutenant in the 4th Punjab Cavalry when he marriedMary Newham on 1 Dec 1863.

He was a Colonel in the Madras Army when he retired in 1894.

Thoams and Mary had 4 children:-

· Margaret Lily born 18October 1865 in Mercara Mysore

· Edith Madeline born 27March 1868 in Lahore

· Ormsby Charles Henry born8 April 1869

· Mary Grace born 26 February1873

Thomas died on 4th April 1916 at the age of 77 inScotland.

William Elphinstone Underwood (1803 – 1874)

William was born in 1803 in Westminster, London, England.

He was the son of John Underwood (1774 – 1839) and Camilla Steele(1776 – 1849).

He worked for the Indian Civil Service.

He married Magdalene Thompson (1806 – 1882) in 1828 in Madras,India.

They had 12 children, 8 girls and 4 boys.
